Gastrofest 2025 Celebrates Sustainable Gastronomy in Bogota and Cundinamarca, Showcasing Local Flavors and Environmental Consciousness

Bogota and Cundinamarca transformed into a massive dining table in October 2025, with a focus on sustainability and regional flavours. 200 eateries and food companies came together for the 16-day Gastrofest 2025 event, which took place from October 4 to October 19, to show that gastronomy can be both tasty and ecologically conscious. The Colombian Chefs Association and CityHuertas provided assistance to the Bogota Chamber of Commerce in organising the event. This year’s theme, sustainable gastronomy, encouraged eco-conscious eating habits while providing guests with an exciting tour of Colombia’s varied culinary traditions.

With its celebration of regional ingredients and adoption of eco-friendly practices, the festival was a major step in raising awareness of the significance of sustainable eating habits. The goal was to increase people’s awareness of the origins and production processes of the food that keeps them alive. It served as a reminder that every bite affects the environment and the community more broadly.

For many small and medium-sized food businesses, Gastrofest 2025 was more than just a seasonal event. It served as a vital learning platform, offering opportunities for growth, collaboration, and customer engagement. With over 300 applicants, the organizers selected 200 businesses to be part of this year’s edition, providing them with increased visibility through media campaigns and promotional efforts. These businesses were featured in the official Gastrofest 2025 directory and participated in contests, visibility campaigns, and public relations activities that attracted thousands of potential customers.

The festival not only helped boost the visibility of participating businesses but also allowed them to build meaningful relationships with local suppliers, fellow entrepreneurs, and key players in the tourism sector. This collaborative environment fostered a sense of community and mutual growth, which many of the small businesses were able to leverage for future success. Gastrofest 2025 demonstrated how festivals can be a platform for economic development, connecting gastronomy with other local industries and tourism.

One of the standout features of Gastrofest 2025 was the introduction of the Sustainable Gastronomy Pact, a set of principles designed to guide chefs and food businesses toward more responsible practices. The pact encouraged participants to focus on sustainability by using local, seasonal ingredients, minimizing waste, and supporting small producers. It also emphasized reducing single-use plastics and designing menus that utilized entire ingredients rather than focusing on the most commercially viable parts.

The event’s organizers hoped that the Sustainable Gastronomy Pact would encourage a shift in the way food businesses approach sourcing and food preparation, fostering a mindset where sustainability is at the core of every decision. This initiative demonstrated that sustainable gastronomy is not only possible but essential for the long-term health of both the food industry and the environment. It encouraged chefs to think beyond traditional practices, integrating sustainability into every step of their culinary process.

From the moment Gastrofest 2025 was launched, guests were given a taste of the diverse offerings that would appear throughout the festival. The launch event featured Amazonian fruits, sauces, and jams, as well as locally made mozzarella from Dibufala, offering a preview of the incredible range of flavours that would be showcased during the festival. These products not only highlighted the creativity and talent of local chefs but also emphasized the importance of using native, regional ingredients that contribute to the preservation of local ecosystems.

Gastrofest 2025 was not only a gastronomic event; it was an important step in strengthening the overall gastronomic ecosystem of Bogota and Cundinamarca. By emphasizing sustainability and regional pride, the festival helped raise awareness about responsible sourcing, food waste reduction, and fairer trade relationships with producers. The event successfully intertwined gastronomy with tourism, creating new opportunities for both industries to thrive.

Restaurants and food businesses participating in the festival gained invaluable exposure, and many engaged in conversations about the long-term importance of sustainable food practices. For the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, Gastrofest has become a key part of its strategy to connect agrifood businesses with tourism and regional development efforts. It highlighted the potential of food as a cultural asset that can attract visitors and promote economic growth through responsible practices.

For attendees, the event underscored the simple yet powerful message that choosing where to eat can have a profound impact. By supporting local businesses and sustainable practices, visitors contribute to the health of the region’s economy and environment. This ethos aligns perfectly with the growing global demand for more conscious consumer choices, particularly in the food industry.

Gastrofest 2025 showed how a festival can become a catalyst for long-term change rather than just a celebration of food. In addition to showcasing the region’s culinary diversity, the event set a new benchmark for how food festivals can support local economies and the health of the planet by fusing the best of gastronomy with sustainability.
